Dictionary of Acronyms

 

  • 504 PLAN – An educational support plan for students who qualify for these supports under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1974 (a civil rights law prohibiting employers and organizations which receive federal funding from discrimination based on disabilities)
  • AHCCCS – Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, Arizona’s Medicaid Program
  • ALTCS – Arizona Long Term Care System (for Title XIX eligible clients). Overseen by AHCCCS Administration
  • APIPA – Arizona Physicians IPA, one of the State’s acute care contractors for individuals in ALTCS
  • ARC – An State or local advocacy organization for individuals with developmental disabilities
  • BHS or ABHS – the Arizona Behavioral Health System, within DHS
  • DD – developmentally disabled
  • DDD – The Division of Developmental Disabilities, within DES
  • DES of ADES – the Department of Economic Security
  • DHS or ADHS – Arizona Department of Health Services
  • DOE or ADOE or ADE – Arizona Department of Education (DOE can refer to the U.S. Dept. of Education)
  • DX - Diagnosis
  • ED – Emotionally disabled
  • FERPA – Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
  • HIPAA – Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996
  • IDEA, IDEIA – Individuals with Disabilities Education (Improvement) Act – the federal law governing special education rights
  • IEE – Independent educational evaluation
  • IEP – Individual Education Plan
  • IFSP – Individual and Family Service Plan
  • ISP – Individual Service Plan
  • LD – Learning disabled
  • LRE – Least Restrictive Environment
  • MET – Multidisciplinary evaluation team (used for the team that meets after the evaluation or re-evaluation is complete. Sometimes used for IEP team)
  • MR – Mental retardation (term still used in many state and federal statutes)
  • OAH – Office of Administrative Hearings (hears appeals for eligibility and services from ALTCS and BHS clients)
  • OCR – Office for Civil Rights (within the U.S. Department of Education)
  • OCSHCN – The Office for Children with Special Health Care Needs, within DHS
  • RX - Prescription
  • TITLE XIX – The Program responsible for federal eligibility criteria and funding for states’ Medicaid l
